Hello and welcome to my blog at Sommer Fine Art Studio!
If you’re not familiar with the term, boudoir photography, it is a genre of photography that captures intimate, romantic, and sometimes erotic images of individuals, usually women, in a private and often luxurious setting. These photos are meant to be a celebration of the who you are and not what society has put onto us and also a way to showcase the beauty and confidence of you!
Boudoir photography is all about creating a safe and comfortable environment where you can let yourself free and truly express yourself. The boudoir photographer’s job (Me!) is to make you feel relaxed and at ease so that I can capture the most authentic and genuine images of you.
Today, boudoir photography has become much more mainstream and is popular with people of all ages, genders, sizes and backgrounds. It’s a way for people to feel empowered, confident, and beautiful in their own skin, and many choose to do a boudoir shoot as a way to celebrate milestones in their lives such as a wedding, a birthday, or a major life change. Many even do it after a separation or divorce. Whatever your reason may be this is about you treating yourself.
In terms of the actual process of a boudoir shoot, it typically starts with a consultation between the photographer and the subject. This is a chance for you to share your vision for the shoot, as well as any concerns or questions you may have. The boudoir photographer (again Me!) can also provide guidance on wardrobe, hair and makeup, and the overall look and feel of the shoot.
On the day of the shoot, the subject will typically spend some time getting ready with the help of a hair and makeup artist. This is a chance to pamper themselves and get into the right mindset for the shoot. Once they’re ready, the boudoir photographer will lead you through the shoot, providing guidance on poses, expressions, and overall direction. I would never ask you to do anything I wouldn’t do so I won’t just tell you how to pose but show you by doing it myself. I find that most people really love that I do this because it clears any confusion on the pose.
It’s important to note that boudoir photography is not just about taking sexy photos. It’s about capturing you in a way that makes you feel beautiful and confident, whether that means posing in lingerie or simply wrapped in a cozy sweater. The goal is to showcase your unique personality and beauty, and to create images that you will treasure for years to come.
When it comes to wardrobe for a boudoir shoot, there are a wide variety of options to choose from. Some subjects may feel most comfortable in lingerie or a swimsuit, while others may prefer a cozy sweater or a simple sheet. The key is to choose outfits that make you feel confident and beautiful, and that also fit with the overall look and feel of the shoot. Here at Sommer Fine Art Studio I provide lingerie for people of all shapes and sizes ranging from XS all the way up to 6XL because I believe that boudoir photography is meant for everyone. If you have your own lingerie that you just love, you are more than welcome to use that as well.
Hair and makeup are also important considerations for a boudoir shoot. Many boudoir photographers will work with a hair and makeup artist to help you achieve a look that makes you feel your best. This is also true here at Sommer Fine Art Studio. We have some of the best hair and makeup artists in the industry. The goal is to create a look that complements your unique and beauty features and brings out your natural beauty.
One of the most important things to consider when choosing a boudoir photographer is their level of experience and professionalism. You want to work with someone who has a deep understanding of the genre and knows how to create a safe and comfortable environment for you. One thing that I believe to be one of the most important things when considering a boudoir photographer is their “why”. Why are they in the industry? For me personally it is all about body positivity and uplifting women but most of, it is breaking the standard of how society portrays “beauty”. I believe in showing you how beautiful you are just the way you are.
Another important consideration is the location of the shoot. While boudoir photography is often associated with luxury hotel rooms or private studios (which is what I offer). The key is to find a location that makes the subject feel comfortable and at ease, whether that means a plush hotel room, a cozy bedroom, or a luxurious studio.
In terms of the final images, most boudoir photographers will provide a range of options for their clients. This may include digital images, prints, or even a beautiful, customized album. My goal is to create images that you can look back on and say “THAT’S ME!!!”, whether as a reminder of a special moment in your life or simply as a celebration of your journey and who you are.
It’s important to note that boudoir photography is not just for women. There are also many boudoir photographers that offer male and couples boudoir photography and are welcoming of the LGBTQ+ community (Also Me!). The key is to find a boudoir photographer who you feel comfortable with and who has a deep understanding of body positivity.
Overall, boudoir photography is a beautiful and empowering way to celebrate who you are and to capture your unique beauty and confidence. If you’re considering a boudoir shoot, take the time to find the right photographer (…cough*) and location, and be sure to communicate your vision and concerns throughout the process. A boudoir shoot will be an unforgettable and empowering experience you will wish you had done sooner.
